Training

Functional training

For anyone who wants to move better, without pain and with real energy day to day. Ideal if you spend hours at a desk, you are coming back after a break or you want to prevent injuries before they show up.

Smart movement, real results

Functional training is not a passing trend: it means working the movement patterns your body actually needs every single day. We combine controlled circuits, core work, HIIT and active mobility so you genuinely improve at what matters: moving well, without pain and with more energy.

We put technique first from day one and match the intensity to your current level. Every bit of progress is measured, not guessed at, with regular tests of mobility, stability, grip and loads, following the same evidence-based methodology we apply across every service.

The 4 pillars

The movement patterns we train

Push

Presses, dips and variations that build shoulders, chest and triceps. Key to posture and long-term shoulder health.

Pull

Lat pulldowns, rows and pull-ups that strengthen your back and biceps. The antidote to a hunched desk posture.

Knee dominant

Squats and lunges that develop quads, glutes and overall stability. The foundation of human movement.

Hip dominant

Hip hinge, deadlift and variations that fire up the posterior chain, glutes and hamstrings. Real back injury prevention.

Who it suits

Where you start doesn't matter.
Where you're going does.

Functional training adapts to you, not the other way round. Whatever your starting point, there is a clear route forward.

  • Desk workers and sedentary lifestyles: you sit for hours and feel it in your back, neck or hips. You need to move and switch your body back on, with a plan behind it.
  • Coming back to training: you have gone months (or years) without moving and you want to do it properly from the start, safely and with visible progress. Personal training (1:1) is often the best way to kick off.
  • Injury prevention: you are already active but you want to bulletproof your body before the usual overuse issues or muscular imbalances appear. Alan, our return-to-training specialist, works on exactly this.

How we measure your progress

No vague "I feel better". We use objective tests so you can watch the numbers move.

Mobility and stability

We assess joint ranges of motion and your ability to stabilise under progressively heavier loads.

Grip test

Grip strength is one of the best predictors of general health. We measure it and improve it with specific work.

Progressive overload

We log every session: weights, sets, reps and RPE, so your progression is always objective and measurable.

Results

What functional training gets you

Within a few weeks you start to feel it. Within months, you see it in your tests and in everyday life.

  • More mobility and coordination so you can move without restrictions.
  • Better posture and less tension in your neck and lower back.
  • A stronger back that stands up to long hours at a desk.
  • Better cardiovascular fitness thanks to the HIIT circuits built into the plan.
  • Fewer everyday niggles in knees, hips and shoulders.
  • More energy through the day: movement recharges you, it does not drain you.

FAQ

What people ask us most about functional training

Do I need previous experience to start?

No. We start from your current level, whatever that is. If you have never trained, we begin by building solid technical foundations. If you already have experience, we adjust intensity and volume so you keep progressing.

How is it different from strength training?

Functional training prioritises movement quality, mobility and carry-over into everyday life. Strength is one component, but not the only one. If your main goal is lifting heavier or building muscle, strength training may suit you better.

How often do I need to train?

We recommend a minimum of 2 sessions a week for consistent results, 3 ideally. Your coach builds the plan around your genuine availability, with no off-the-shelf templates.
